CollegeACB: The Burn Book to a Whole new level

Can anyone guess the movie reference in the title?  Anyone?  Well its Mean Girls.  Now down to business.  College is a time when people find out who they truly are, and for anyone posted on CollegeACB.com, college is a time when students can get bashed not only behind their back, but on a forum so the entire University can see.  Its actually a great concept, creating a place where students can talk, but has taken a tail dive with recent forums titled "what aepi boys are cute? (obviously they all are)", "HOT MALE Athletes" and "Hottest Girl at Michigan".  But regardless of the topic, the one constant is bashing, mental abuse, and of course, rumors.  Back in the 90s rumors were spread the old fashioned way; word of mouth.  But now rumors are sent online, as if they weren't bad already, but now they can literally be seen by anyone.  In terms of New Media this is the rumor quadrant, simply being put that anyone can make fun of anyone.  Well the one thing for certain about collegeacb is simple, that anyone can be bashed if someone wants to take the time to write a paragraph.

  1. Brandon,
College ACB is exactly what you said- "The Burn Book on a Whole New Level". The worst part about it, though, is that you can bash people anonymously. It is easy for some people to bash people face to face, but for most, that is not the case, so by making the "bashings" anonymous, people are more inclined to post on College ACB, thereby taking away the so called "face-to-face" interaction. For this reason, one of my friends has created a petition to take the anonymous out of College ACB in hopes that many less people will post bad things about others. Do you think this could be an effective way of minimizing the amount of "bashings" on the site? I do. And that's why I have signed her petition. If you are interested, go to http://collegeacb.com/sb/usc/thread/1066982 and sign her petition!

  2. Brandon,
First of all, I loved your Meal Girls reference! But seriously, College ACB is a virtual burn book. I really like the point that Sophie brought up about the capability for anonymous posting. In Mean Girls the girls who wrote the burn book were forced to suffer the consequences. However, the fact that these posts can be done anonymously will just make the gossip THAT much jucier. People will post horrible things knowing that they cannot be caught. I think taking the anonymous factor out of College ACB could potentially change the entire outlook of the site from being purely gossip and bashing to more meaningful things, as Brandon insinuated may have been the original intention of the site.
